Ahiram Hotel
The coastline and old city of Byblos under a clear blue sky

The location

Seven thousand years of history, on your doorstep

Byblos — Jbeil in Arabic — is one of the oldest continuously inhabited towns on earth, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Ahiram Hotel is right in the middle of it, on the seafront.

The name Ahiram

Named for a Phoenician king

Ahiram was a king of Byblos around the 10th century BC. His stone sarcophagus, found in the necropolis just up the hill, carries one of the earliest known inscriptions in the Phoenician alphabet — the alphabet that the rest of the world later borrowed.

We took the name because the hotel belongs to this place. Guests walk out of the door and straight into that history: a temple here, a Roman column there, a Crusader wall around the corner. And then the sea, the same one the Phoenicians sailed from this very harbour.

You do not need a car to enjoy Byblos. Almost everything is within a ten-minute walk, and we are happy to point you toward our favourite spots for a meal or a coffee.

Around the hotel

What to see, all within reach

The Crusader Castle

Built by the Crusaders in the 12th century from the stones of older Roman monuments, with views over the whole archaeological site.

The Old Harbour

A working fishing port for thousands of years. Fishermen still bring in the morning catch beside the old stone quay.

Phoenician & Roman Ruins

Temples, a Roman theatre and royal tombs — including the sarcophagus of King Ahiram, who gave the hotel its name.

The Old Souks

Restored stone lanes full of craft shops, cafés and fossil sellers, a few minutes from the hotel door.

The Beach

A sandy bay right below the hotel — a rare thing on this rocky stretch of the Lebanese coast.

Sunset on the Sea

Byblos faces due west. From the terrace and the sea-view rooms, the sun drops straight into the Mediterranean.
